The Sony DCR-IP5 is (or, at least,
was) the world's smallest and lightest
full-function camcorder. Sized perfectly to slip into either
purse or pocket, Sony's DCR-IP5 MicroMV Handycam camcorder
is a gallon of fun in a half-pint package. The IP5 offers
CD-quality sound, 500 lines of horizontal resolution and a
DVD-like picture-accessing feature that allows users to
select and retrieve information on the tape with the touch
of a button. The MicroMV cassettes are 70 percent smaller
than MiniDV tapes and allow for the camcorders' tiny size.
MicroMV Sony's first tape-based
consumer MPEG2 recording format, MPEG2 compression
technology that is PC friendly and provides video quality
comparable to DV. And how do you transfer those MPEG2 videos
to your computer for editing and posting on the web? By way
of the super fast IEEE 1394 FireWire connection (sony's
trade name for this feature is: iLink).
